Swissflex Classic

ordering via mail

Do you already wear Swissflex glasses?

Fewer and fewer optical shops are carring Swissflex. Artisan Eyewear has worked by mail with clients from Texas, California, Florida and a dozen other states! We’re able to update lenses with your new prescription, or replicate a favorite old frame. If you are new to Swissflex, or want a new lens shape / style, that requires an in-person visit.

For Lens Replacement Only: A Caveat

Please click on this text block or scroll down to read the section titled, “Which Style of Swissflex Do You Have?” There is a style of Swissflex frame that no one (as far as we know) can replace lenses in. If that’s your situation, we recommend having that frame replicated in the current Swissflex style.

01

Pricing

Swissflex Classic frames are $350, and we charge $13 for USPS postage.

Lenses vary widely depending on if you’re wearing a single-vision, bifocal, trifocal, or progressive lens.

Single vision aspheric lenses in standard Trivex material and Crizal anti reflective treatment are $300.

Progressive lenses in standard Trivex material and Crizal anti reflective treatment range from $450-600 depending on which of the ~200 progressive designs you wear.

02

Lens Shapes

Working via mail means you can’t order a lens shape from us that is new-to-you. You’ll mail us your ‘old’ pair, we’ll trace those lenses and use that pattern to create the new lenses. This is especially important with progressive lenses: your vertical and horizontal measurements will be obtained from your old pair of Swissflex progressives, because we won’t be able to take your measurements in person.

If you wear single-vision lenses and would like your shape but slightly larger or smaller (+/- 1 or 2 mm per lens), that is possible.

03

Colors

If you have an old pair of Swissflex but would like to switch up the colors, we can work with you using photos and/or Zoom. However: there’s no option to change if you end up not liking it.

04

Fitting

This is the major downside to mail ordering Swissflex: remote adjustment is next to impossible. Opticians need to see you in the frame to know where and how much to shape the temples behind your ears. The best-case scenario is if (1) In the past you haven’t needed much of any adjustment and feel they’ll be fine out of the box, (2) you have a local optician who has worked with Swissflex frames before.

Which Style of Swissflex Do You Have?

For several years in the not-too-distant past, a second version of Swissflex was sold in opticals across the USA. In a nutshell, there was a patent infringement issue. That second version can be identified using the photos below. Eyephorics Italee 2.5 parts are no longer made, and they aren’t serviceable. However! We can replicate them in the original Swissflex style for you.

Which one do you have?

1. Examine the images below; if the outer edge of the lens is smooth (no notch) and the hinge’s c hook faces in, they are likely repairable or serviceable.

2. If the c hook faces out, if there is a notch in the lens edge, or if the temple says words like eyephorics, italee, 2.5 — it’s likely your frame is of the discontinued design. If you’d like confirmation or are otherwise unsure, please take a few in-focus closeup photos of your frame and email them to us.

Artisan Eyewear only services and sells original Swissflex frames, like the one in the image above.

Parts are no longer made for these frames.
